If your coach uses Grove with you, you already open it in a browser at app.grove.coach. You can install it straight from Chrome, no Play Store download required. It takes about a minute and gives Grove its own home-screen icon, so your daily check-in is one tap away.
Installed, Grove fills the screen with no address bar or tabs around it, and it stays the same account you already sign in to. This guide covers installing from Chrome, the browser most Android phones ship with.
On an iPhone instead? You don’t need this guide. Grove has a native iPhone app you can download from the App Store, and Grove for clients has the details and the download link.
The terms you’ll see
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Install (or Add to Home screen) | The Chrome menu option that adds Grove to your home screen with an icon of its own. Which of the two labels you see depends on your phone and your version of Chrome. |
| Web app | What Chrome installs: the Grove site itself, saved to your phone. There’s no separate Play Store download. Updates usually arrive on their own, and for a larger one Grove shows an Update now button you can tap when it suits you. |
Before you start
- You’ll need a Grove account. If you don’t have one yet, start with Get started with Grove as a client.
- You’ll need Chrome, the browser most Android phones ship with. Other Android browsers can often install web apps too, but their menus look different from what’s described here.
- Set aside about a minute. You only do this once, and nothing you install here needs setting up afterwards.
Steps
-
Open app.grove.coach in Chrome and sign in. Once you’re in, Grove lands on your Today screen, the one with your daily check-in on it. If you were already signed in from an earlier visit, you’ll go straight there.
-
Tap the Chrome menu, the three dots in the top right corner of the browser. Chrome’s menu of page and browser options opens. You’re looking for the option that adds a site to your phone, so give the page a moment to finish loading first.
-
Tap Install app. On some Android phones, or on older versions of Chrome, the same option reads Add to Home screen instead. Either one does the same thing, and Chrome asks you to confirm rather than installing straight away.
Gotcha: if neither option is in the menu, that is almost always the browser or the page rather than your phone. Why you might not see Install app.
-
Tap Install to confirm. The prompt shows Grove’s name and icon first, so you can see exactly what you’re adding. Chrome then adds the icon alongside your other apps.
-
Open Grove from its new home screen icon. Grove fills the screen, with no address bar or tabs around it, and lands you back on the same Today screen with your check-in ready to go.
Tip: you’re still using the same Grove account. Anything you do in the installed version also shows up when you open Grove in a browser, so there’s nothing separate to keep in sync.
Android and iPhone are a little different
Installed on Android, Grove gives you the full experience for check-ins, habits, and messaging. Two features are available only in Grove’s iPhone app: push notifications and health data syncing.
If something looks wrong
- The Chrome menu has no Install app or Add to Home screen option. Usually the browser or the page rather than your phone. Why you might not see Install app.
- Grove opens in a regular browser tab instead of full screen. You probably arrived by link or bookmark rather than the icon. Why Grove opens in a browser tab.
- You want to remove it. Nothing you’ve logged is lost when you do. How to remove Grove from your home screen.
What’s next
Once Grove is on your home screen, the daily rhythm is the same one covered in Get started with Grove as a client: check in, log your habits, message your coach when something comes up. If you’d rather manage exactly which emails Grove sends you, from check-in reminders to coach responses, that’s in Settings > Notification Settings.
